The Miles Mills Windows (South 1 & 2) The first pair of windows in the south aisle, starting from the choir vestry door, have a family connection.  If we take the second one first, this depicts the Presentation of Christ in the Temple, as told in Luke 2: 22 - 33. Simeon receives the child, and speaks the words which we call the "Nunc Dimittis".  We can also see the young pigeons which Mary has brought as a sacrifice to God for the birth of her Son.  This would have been the smallest offering possible reflecting the poor background of Jesus’s family.  A lamb was the normal gift for sacrifice. The window was given in memory of Ada Mills by her husband Miles, and the other window is in memory of their only child, Doris who died in 1907. It is a scene where Jesus gathers children to him, which must have been a comforting image to Doris's parents.  We have always understood that the face of the girl looking out at us is taken from a photo of Doris, which must make this window quite unusual.
